名声の凱旋

このタペストリーは、保存状態、色彩、調和の取れた構図のいずれにおいても桁外れの素晴らしい作品です。ペトラルカの詩「凱旋」に一部基づいたこの作品は、愛、貞節、死、名声、時間、宗教の6 つの勝利を描いた6 連作の1枚として制作されました。この作品では、古代の人々の行いを著作によって不朽のものとした著者たちに囲まれながら、「名声」が書見台で書物を読んでいます。「死」に打ち勝つ「名声」は「運命」を踏みつけ、十字架を頂いた玉を手にしており、この主題は明らかにキリスト教を背景としています。この作品、または全く同じ作品を、カスティリヤとアラゴンの王妃、イザベラが1504年に購入しています。
