貢物運び
紀元前9世紀から前7世紀には、アッシリア人がメソポタミア、シリア、レバント(地中海東部およびその島と沿岸諸国)、そして一時はエジプトをも支配しました。帝国の各地からアッシリアの大都市へあらゆる貢物が運ばれ、優れた職人が集められました。この像は、アッシリアの王への故国からの貢物として、猿、オリックス(アフリカ・レイヨウ)、ヒョウの毛皮など、エジプト以南に生息する動物を携えています。宮殿の調度品の飾りだったと考えられるこの作品は、明らかにエジプト風の男のポーズや表情に、フェニキア様式の特徴が表れています。
