神聖ローマ皇帝オットー1世からマクデブルク大聖堂を受け取るキリストを描いた飾り板
サクソニー(ドイツ)のマクデブルク大聖堂は、968年に献堂されました。付き添いの聖人より小さく彫られている神聖ローマ皇帝オットー1世(在位962–73 年)が、キリストの祝福を受けるため大聖堂の模型を献上しています。皇帝の背後に見られるのは、オットー朝とマクデブルク市の守護聖人である聖マウリティウスです。イエス・キリストの生涯を描いたこのパネルを含む17枚の飾り板は、イタリアで製作されたと考えられており、大聖堂の説教壇、聖歌隊席への扉、または聖壇のうちのいずれかを飾ったと考えられています。1008年と1049年の火災の後、この一式の飾り板は取り外され、それぞれ聖遺物箱や本の表紙の装飾として使われました。
