結び目のある龍のペンダント

このペンダントは中国の初期翡翠彫刻の名作であり、細身の龍のヘビのような体が優雅な環状を形成しています。体に刻み込まれた深い溝がねじれたロープのように見え、同時に力強い印象を与えています。しなやかな龍の曲がりくねった胴体と、うなり声を上げているかのような大きく開いた口は、東周王朝末期によくある装飾的図様ですが、これは西域の美術に発想を得たものを、ユーラシア高原の遊牧民族が近隣の中国にもたらしたものです。
