青花龍文壺

14世紀の中国で花開いたコバルト顔料による染付の技法は、世界の陶磁器史上最も重要な出来事と言えるでしょう。宮廷のために作られたこの貯蔵壺の逸品は、景徳鎮窯で作られましたが、肩にある銘から宣徳帝の治世に製造されたものであることが分かっています。作品では龍が薄い雲が浮かんだ空を波打つように力強く飛んでいるところを染付で描いています。壺の肩の部分にある奇怪な表情の生き物は、15世紀中国で好まれ、インド・ヒマラヤ文化圏によく見られた守護神(キルティムカ)の図像に由来していると思われます。
