この作品は、15 世紀中頃のフィレンツェで描かれた肖像画の傑作であるだけでなく、現存する最古のダブル・ポートレートであり、また室内を背景として描かれた最初の作品です。作中のふたりの人物の婚約または結婚を記念する絵であるかも知れません。女性の深紅の上着の左の袖口に、lealtaの文字が刺繍であるかのように描かれています。女性は豪華な花嫁衣装と宝飾品を身に着けています。丹念に描き込まれたドレスと宝石、背景の建物や庭園は、この家族の財産を表しているのかも知れません。
