アラビア文字の鉢

イスラム美術では歴史を通して、文字が工芸や建物の装飾モチーフとして多用されました。しかしながらイスラム文化圏の東部で作られたこの作品のような鉢において、文字が書として、また装飾として、比類なき純粋さと力強さを発揮しました。この鉢は、この種のものとしてはいたって大型の逸品です。優雅なクーフィー体の銘には「備えあれば悔いなし。繁栄と平和あれ」と書かれています。
