騎馬像のための習作

フィレンツェの彫刻師、画家、彫版師、そして金細工師だったポライウォーロのこの作品は、ミラノのルドヴィコ・スフォルツァ公爵のために描かれたと考えられています。父親フランチェスコ・スフォルツァのブロンズ像の習作でしたが、銅像は制作されないままとなりました。この素描は16世紀の歴史家で画家のジョルジオ・ヴァザーリが所有し、彼の著作『画家・彫刻家・建築家列伝』(1568年)の中で記述されています。人物と馬の周りに暗褐色の絵具を塗ったのはヴァザーリだと思われます。
