ニカーレ一家の彫像

ニカーレは、ニウセルラーの治世またはそれ以降にエジプト経済において重要な役割を担 った穀倉の役人でした。彼の墓から発掘された4体の像のうちふたつがメトロポリタン美術館に収蔵されており、そのうちのひとつ(花崗岩製)では彼を書記官として表しています。ここでは、左足の横にかがんでいる妻のクーエンヌブと、反対側に立つ幼い娘のクーエンネブティとともに、一家の主として誇らしげに描かれています。身体のつくりが彫刻で繊細に表現されており、製作当時の絵の具の跡がさらに精彩を与えています。
