風の中の牡丹
ジョン・ラ・ファージュは、ルイス・カムフォート・ティファニーとともにアメリカのステンドグラスを根本的に変貌させました。最初の作品のひとつである「風の中の牡丹」は、 牡丹の花を描いた中国の巻物に発想を得ています。ラ・ファージュは1879年から1909年までの間に同じ主題のガラス窓を少なくとも7枚制作しており、その最初であるこの作品は、ジュエル、カボション、成形、型押し、波型乳白色ガラスなど、斬新で並外れたガラスを特徴とし、異なる質感と大胆な色使いのため非常に装飾的で異国情緒あふれたものとなっています。ニューヨークで制作されたこの窓は、ロードアイランド州ニューポートのヘンリー G. マーカンド邸に設置されました。
