Poetry #2 (Like A Parched Pitcher)
This work is among the earliest works by the internationally acclaimed artist, Siah Armajani who passed away in 2020. They are simple but telling expressions of a young political activist and nationalist who was disillusioned with the turn of events following the 1953 coup that toppled the government of Mohammad Mossadeq. The page has been removed from an anthology of the modern Iranian poet and activist, Mehdi Akhavan Saless. Saless's poem "Chu Sabu-ye Teshneh" (The Parched Pitcher) spoke to Armajani with such intensity that he wrote over the verses and signed his own name next to them. It is an intimate expression of a young artist grappling with disillusionment about his future and the future of his country.
