캐비닛
현재 파리 오르세 미술관에 있는 이 캐비닛의 프로토타입이 1867년도 파리세계박람회에 전시되었을 때에는 대체로 반응이 그리 좋지 않았습니다. 그러나 딜은 그 결과에 대해 만족했던 것이 분명한데 그 이유는 자신을 위해 거의 동일한 캐비닛을 하나 더 만들었기 때문입니다. 모양과 장식 면에서 관습에 얽매이지 않은 이 캐비닛은 전설적인 과거를 불러 일으키는 중앙 장식판을 선보이며 프랑스 민족주의의 강인한 의식을 표현합니다. 이 가구는 훈족의 아틸라에 대항한 451년의 승리 이후 메로비스 왕의 승리를 묘사합니다. 쓰러진 적들의 시신 위를 넘어 가라고 명령하는 기사의 전차에는 메로비스가 올라 타 있습니다.
