세테의 큰 파도
르 그레가 이 해경 사진을 촬영했던 시대의 대부분 사진가들은 한 장의 사진에서 풍경과 하늘의 적절한 노출을 동시에 획득하는 것은 불가능하다고 생각하였습니다. 따라서 그의 작품에 보이는 해경의 햇빛과 구름, 파도의 극적인 효과는 동시대의 사진가들에게 큰 감명을 주었습니다. 르 그레는 바다와 하늘을 따로 촬영한 두 장의 음화를 한 장의 인화지에 사용함으로써 이 문제를 해결하였습니다. 음화는 때로 다른 시간에 다른 장소에서 촬영하였습니다. 르 그레의 해경 사진은 사진의 기술적인 성과뿐 아니라 전례 없는 시적인 효과를 표현했기 때문에 반향을 불러 일으켰습니다.
