레이오그래프
초현실주의의 애매함을 추구했던 맨 레이에게는 감광지에 피사체를 직접 배치하고 카메라를 사용하지 않고 광선에 노출시키는 과정인 포토그램은 안성맞춤이었습니다. 맨 레이의 친구인 트리스탕 차라는 이것을 “레이오그래프”라고 칭했지만 포토그램은 똑같은 이미지를 두 번 반복하여 만들 수 없었고 조정도 거의 불가능한 기법이었습니다. 맨 레이의 가장 큰 레이오그래프 중의 하나인 이 작품에서 액상 화학약품으로 “채색된” 어두컴컴한 배경 위로 백색으로 빛나는 형상들이 떠다니는데, 이는 천지창조의 은유를 나타내는 것 같습니다.
