이 접시는 사산 왕조 시대 미술 특유의 복잡한 기술로 아름답게 제작되었으며, 이후 11세기에 쓰여지는 이란의 대서사시 샤나마(왕의 책)에 포함되는 이야기를 묘사합니다. 샤나마 에서 사산왕 바흐람 구르 또는 바흐람 5세(재위 420– 438년)는 그가 총애하는 악사 아자다로 부터 궁술 묘기를 보여달라는 요청을 받습니다. 바흐람 구르왕은 수컷 가젤에게 활을 쏘아 그 뿔을 제거하여 암컷처럼 보이게 하고, 암컷 가젤의 머리에는 활을 두 번 쏘아 그 머리에 박힌 두 개의 화살이 수컷의 뿔처럼 보이게 한다는 이야기가 묘사되어 있습니다.
