Archaic-style cup with ring handle
This exquisite cup is modeled after a bronze, jade, or lacquer object from the third century BCE. The large, pearl-like embellishments echo the dense knobs on bronze or jade vessels from the Eastern Zhou period (770–256 BCE), which, in turn, emulate the granulated surfaces characteristic of contemporaneous metalwork. The design of ribbons interlaced with the heads of birds also derives from Eastern Zhou bronzes.
