Jug
This jug is skillfully decorated with corn husks under a Standard glaze, embellished with a silver overlay design of grapes and grapevines. The Gorham Manufacturing Company in Providence, Rhode Island, applied silver overlays on Rookwood Standard glaze objects from 1892 to 1893. Rookwood had no control over the silver designs, and the venture was not considered critically successful. For another example of this technique, see 69.37.2. The American Wing has additional examples of Rookwood Pottery, see 43.67, 45.147, 69.17, 69.37.1, 69.37.2, 69.37.3, 1973.93, 1980.452, 1980.453, 1981.443, L.1999.101, 1991.214, and 1991.335.
