스산도
오세아니아 지역에서는 로타나무의 길게 갈라진 잎으로 만든 관 모양의 대나무 치터인 스산도라는 현악기가 매우 유명합니다. 티모르 섬에서 발견된 이 스산도는 로티족의 일원이 만든 것으로 보이며 이들은 로티섬 근방에서 살고 있었던 것으로 추정됩니다. 사람들은 스산도 음악에 초자연적인 힘이 있다고 믿었습니다. 악기 연주자들은 오른손을 이용하여 베이스 줄을 튕겼고 왼손으로 최고음역을 연주하였습니다. 이동 가능한 브리지와 줄감기 나무못으로 음의 높낮이를 조절하였습니다. 스산도는 주로 피할수 없는 운명에 지배되는 세상과 찰나일 뿐인 인생을 그리는 노래와 함께 연주되곤 하였습니다.
