증정 항아리

한 뉴욕 상인 단체는 이리 운하 건축의 촉진에 대한 감사의 답례로 1825년에 드윗 클린턴 지사에게 증정할 기념비적 항아리 한 쌍을 의뢰하였습니다. 필라델피아의 플레처와 가디너는 티볼리에 있는 하드리아누스 별장 근처에서 1770년에 발굴된 워릭 항아리로 알려진 유명한 로마 항아리의 손잡이와 항아리 몸체의 모형을 따랐습니다. 운하 경로를 따라 우화적인 인물들과 풍경이 각 항아리를 장식합니다. 여기에서 머큐리(상업)과 케레스(농업)는 운하의 보호 자물쇠와 올버니 분지의 측면에 서 있는 동시에 반대편에는 헤라클레스(힘)와 미네르바(지혜)가 로체스터의 수로와 제네시 강의 폭포에 묘사되어 있습니다.
