The multimedia artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss worked collaboratively in photography, video, and sculpture from 1979 until Weiss’s death in 2012. The duo were particularly interested in chance as a conceptual artistic practice. In 1998 they began photographing flowers: one of the pair would shoot an entire of roll of otherwise banal pictures in a suburban garden; the other would rewind the film and repeat the process in Zurich. The dizzying, deeply saturated, superimposed, often psychedelic images allowed the artists to explore the nature of their innovative approach to art making. Weiss noted: "When the photographs come off, it’s like receiving a gift."
