Prayer Bead with God in Glory and the Last Judgment

Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
While the Last Judgment subject provided ample opportunity for terrifying—and sometimes humorous—details, this carver has chosen to amplify the images of paradise with choirs of angels and ranks of saints. The inscription ringing the center is a line from the biblical book of the Apocalypse, sung on the Feast of All Saints: "O how glorious is the kingdom where all the saints rejoice with Christ, clothed in white robes." On the left wing, Saints Stephen, Lawrence, and George are distinguished in the front row by the symbols of their martyrdom.
