Shoes
Throughout the eighteenth century, the colors and materials of fashionable women's shoes closely mirrored the elegance of their gowns. This shoe, with its elaborate floral embroidery and attenuated red leather heel, dates from the first half of the century. Costly shoes made of delicate fabrics were often worn with a patten, a second sole that was tied or buckled on over the upper to protect the shoe from mud and dirt.
