Hexagonal vase with Rococo-style flowers
This massive vase exemplifies the Qing court’s taste for European-style ornament. The stylized floral scrolls framing the borders reflect French Rococo design. Auspicious, traditional Chinese motifs adorn the center: peaches, pomegranates, Buddha’s-hand citrus, and various flowers. The grand scale, fine clay and glaze, and meticulous painting distinguish this ceramic as a product of the imperial Qing porcelain factory.
