安第斯之心

丘奇很早就因创作出细节丰富的北美东部风景画而成名。在德国博物学家亚历山大·冯·洪堡的启发下，丘奇在1853年和1857年前去南美探险。《安第斯之心》结合了丘奇在厄瓜多尔所作的大量铅笔和油画素描，表现出洪堡曾在赤道附近的安第斯山脉观察到的从热带到温带再到寒带的多样化气候。丘奇最初将这幅画放在一个巨大的窗式画框中展出，并且建议塞满展厅的公众使用观剧镜观看，这样才能更好地欣赏画中美妙的植物细节以及大陆全景。
