Design for a mosaic reredos, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Worcester, Massachusetts
In this design for a mosaic panel, a group of kneeling angels holds a banner that reads "Gloria in Excelsis". The loose rendering of individual tesserae and the incomplete coloring suggest it is an early version of the design. Even so, it exhibits remarkable sensitivity in the careful rendering of the angels’ faces, wings, and garments and is a testament to Frederick Wilson’s skill as an artist.
