住在大溪地东南甘比尔群岛中芒加勒瓦岛上的居民曾崇拜各种超自然生灵，包括主要的神灵、祖先和其他实体。有些神灵被刻画为“提基”（人像），这一词语源自波利尼西亚。岛上居民在1835 – 36年转信基督教后，摧毁了几乎所有的芒加勒瓦木雕，只有大约十余件作品存留至今。这件提基像的身份未明，但是它与历史上确认为“罗果”的雕像相似，后者是带来雨水灌溉作物的农神，他的出现伴随着彩虹和薄雾。
