禅宗著名人物春屋妙葩（1311 –1388年）的这幅正式肖像画原是为一座京都寺庙而作，图上有春屋妙葩本人的题字。此画的风格属于一种源自中国，与葬礼和追悼仪式相关的绘画传统。但在日本，这种画风指一种将禅宗大师描绘得栩栩如生的绘画，不仅用于纪念仪式，也是一种证明佛法成功地衣钵相传的方式。娴熟的笔法与复杂的着色方式相结合，刻画出僧袍和脸部的每处细节，使这幅画肖像显得既大胆又极具吸引力。
