斯里兰卡,阿努拉德普勒

这尊斯里兰卡早期佛教的典型佛像刻画了佛陀结安慰印,向众生传法的形像。以瑜伽姿势打坐的佛陀穿着僧人的“郁多罗僧袍”,即一块紧裹在身上未经裁剪的布料,他右肩裸露,是南传佛教的风格。他的头发呈短卷发状,令人想起他舍弃红尘时曾经剃度,并施舍掉自己做王子时的豪华饰品。以宝石或水晶镶嵌的眼睛更增添了造像的真实感。头顶上火焰形的肉髻是成佛后最主要的殊胜容貌(“相”)之一。
