Met Receives Two Awards at Annual AAM Conference

«At the recent American Association of Museums annual conference, the Metropolitan Museum won two awards for online projects.»

The Museum's Web feature Connections was honored with the Gold Award for Online Presence by the AAM's Media & Technology Committee. Connections, which is produced by the Digital Media Department in collaboration with staff throughout the Museum, launched in January with weekly episodes that highlight the perspectives and insights of staff on works of art in the collection. Participants include curators, conservators, scientists, librarians, educators, photographers, designers, editors, digital media producers, technicians, administrators, executive staff, and many other staff. A new four-minute episode of Connections is posted every Wednesday. Sign up in the upper-right corner of the feature to receive email reminders when new episodes are posted.

Art of the Ancient Near East: A Resource for Educators won first prize for Educational Resources in the 2011 AAM Publications Design Competition. The guide helps K–12 educators bring that collection into their classrooms, and use art to connect to subject areas like history and social studies, math, science, and language arts. It was a collaborative project among staff from the departments of Education, Digital Media, and Ancient Near Eastern Art. The resource is free to all New York City public schools upon request. It may also be purchased in the Museum Store.

Art of the Ancient Near East: A Resource for Educators was made possible by Rolin Foundation USA.
