Kemble and Mrs. Siddons in Macbeth (Act 2, Scene 2)

Macbeth carries daggers and emerges from a room after murdering Duncan to confront his wife Lady MacBeth, who holds aside a curtain. John Kemble took over the role of MacBeth at London's Drury Lane Theatre opposite his sister Sarah Siddons in 1788. Shakespeare's text had been adapted by David Garrick in 1743, and would be edited again by Kimble in 1794. From 1803, when Kemble became manager of thel Covent Gardent Theatre, the pair performed opposite one another there, until Siddons retired in 1812.
