Design for a Trophy arranged as a Frieze

Cornelis Bos Netherlandish

Not on view

Design for a trophy consisting of all'antica military gear. The design is characterized by a man's head with a large helmet on the left side. To the right are a shield, a sword, a spear and a halberd, a cuirass and a bundle of arrows. A second helmet is placed at the right end of the trophy. The head of the man is reminiscent of the work of Maarten van Heemskerk with whom Cornelis Bos collaborated many times throughout his career.
