Pendants: cowrie shells

Italic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 170

Shown here are seven of a group of seventeen tear-shaped amber beads that resemble simplified cowrie shells. They vary in color and size. Each has one flat side and is scored with a groove that runs the length of the bead. The other side is slightly convex. All are perforated at the narrow end.
