These landscapes offer an idiosyncratic tour through painting history. Dai Xi manipulates the textures and shapes associated with work by Huang Gongwang (1269–1354), Shen Zhou (1427–1509), Wu Li (1632–1718), and Yun Shouping (1633–1690), asking us to consider how we understand these four painters, both separately and together, across time.
