Mashrabiya Screen with Medallions

18th century
Not on view
This masterful flat screen is made of large and small panels of turned lattice-work in various designs above a solid base with medallions. These medallions are carved in high relief with interlacing arabesque, recalling embroidery in textiles. The wide spaces between the mashrabiya elements at the top improved the ventilation of the interior space.
