Necklace
Designer Alexander Calder American
During his lifetime Alexander Calder produced some one thousand eight hundred pieces of highly individualistic jewelry. Using brass, silver, or gold wire, he customarily hammered, wrapped, or riveted the metal together. He drew inspiration from a range of cultures, including African and Native American sources. Although untitled, this necklace appears to reference bones or feathers. Calder often incorporated initials into pieces created for friends and family, such as this DM brooch he made for Dorothy Miller, a curator at the Museum of Modern Art.
