Offering stela

Early Dynastic Period
ca. 2750–2649 B.C.
Not on view
The depiction of the deceased receiving food and drink was integrated into funerary ritual in ancient Egypt early in the Pharaonic period. This stele shows a man seated on a chair adorned with bulls' legs in front of a laden offering table. Similar scenes were represented on stelae and tomb walls for more than two millennia. The offering list on the right is partially eroded.
