Side chair from the bedroom of the Worsham-Rockefeller House
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.Part of a larger bedroom suite, this side chair combines Eastern and Western aesthetics. Its ebonized finish and smooth surface imitates Japanese lacquerware, and the flat, conventionalized, and asymmetrical lightwood floral marquetry on the crest rail is a hallmark of Japanesque design. Yet the overall form, fully tufted and upholstered for comfort, is typical of contemporary French and English tastes.
