A Tiffany & Co. logbook documents that this clock, likely made for William Clark, is by Schastey & Co. The figural carvings, fruit festoons, and ribbons bear the hallmark of Schastey’s shop, as do the boldly carved bosses and strapwork below the door panel. The satyr’s face surmounting the clock’s bonnet captures Schastey’s preference for whimsy in his interpretation of Renaissance designs. The unusual leaded-glass door panel features a border of tight, repeated lines that mimics the incised hatchmarks on the strapwork below.
