Medal from the Centennial International Exhibition

American

Not on view

Schastey won this medal for the walnut sideboard he exhibited at the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia. The sideboard was made for the San Francisco home of railroad tycoon Charles Crocker. Schastey outfitted several rooms at Crocker’s house, which was destroyed following the 1906 earthquake. The exposure Schastey gained at the exposition contributed to his future success as a leading designer.
