A large dog keeps watch in a doorway guarding his master's cloak, hat, cane and a lapdog, all of which lie on a table behind him. A small dog outside the door barks at the large one. Portraits of Lion and Dash, the Duke of Beaufort's dogs. Based on a painting shown at the Royal Academy in 1840.
