Center table from the Moorish reception room of the Worsham-Rockfeller House
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.Exactly when this table was added to the Moorish reception room is unknown, but it can be confidently attributed to Schastey. It may have been one of the small changes made by the Rockefeller family, who continued to work with Schastey after acquiring the fully furnished house from Arabella Worsham in 1884. The architectonic base features bold animal-paw feet, fluted columns with lotus-leaf capitals, and an octagonal top supported by crenelated arches and carved brackets. The central plinth has flat, stylized carvings of tendrils and abstract vegetal motifs, centered by brilliant green cabochon malachite mounts, a distinctive element that Schastey used on other pieces in the Worsham-Rockefeller House.
