Not on view

Discovered in the ruins of the patriarchate in Dvin, this dramatic work displays a bust of Christ with long hair as the top portion of a large cross. The plant forms on its base emphasize the promise of eternal life. A fluidly carved angel to the right holds the cross. To the side, the head and forelegs of a powerful horse with its rider’s hand grasping the reins survive. This figure may be Saint George or Saint Theodore, as the horse appears to be trampling their symbol, a dragon.
