The biblical scenes depicted here include an unusual Presentation in the Temple on the left, where the Christ Child stands between his kneeling parents. Only the building’s outline suggests that they are in a temple. On the right, the scene of the Massacre of the Innocents is unfinished, revealing the red line drawings done in advance of inking the final design, a common preparatory technique for Armenian manuscripts.
