Not on view

Hayrapet’s illuminations were inspired by Johann Theodor de Bry’s engravings for a Bible printed in Mainz in 1609, on view nearby. The Armenian artist enlarged details of De Bry’s condensed horizontal scenes into a four-part narrative of Genesis, showing the creation of the world, the creation of Adam and Eve and their temptation by the serpent, and the flood with Noah’s Ark.
