In the headpiece of Luke’s Gospel, T‘oros of Taron painted the two great leaders of Gladzor flanking an enthroned Virgin and Child. His teacher, Esayi Nch‘ets‘i, is to the left and Esayi’s predecessor, Nerses Mshets‘i, is to the right, with their names inscribed over their heads. They are receiving sheets of parchment for the writing of their renowned theological texts. Under Saint Luke’s portrait, T‘oros wrote, "Remember in the Lord Jesus Christ the miserable soul T‘oros."
