One of the most important singer-songwriters of her generation, Joni Mitchell is also an inventive guitar player who utilizes a wide variety of alternate tunings and has influenced rock musicians such as Bob Dylan, Prince, Bonnie Raitt, and Neil Young. She began her career performing on acoustic guitar, and in the 1970s she began to explore the electric guitar sounds of rock, pop, and jazz. Mitchell used this Ibanez archtop on the 1979 live album Shadows and Light and also on the Refuge World Tour (1983).

Archtop hollow-body with f-holes; 24 3/4 in. scale; natural finish with three-ply off-white and black binding; set neck with off-white binding, acrylic and abalone block inlays, "JONI MITCHELL" inlaid in acrylic at 21st fret; headstock with inlaid acrylic Ibanez logo and "GB" crest, George Benson signature on truss rod cover; two floating miniature humbucking pickups, three-way selector switch, two volume and two tone controls; gold hardware, ebony floating bridge with mother-of-pearl inlay, ebony and gold plated tailpiece, tortoiseshell plastic pickguard with off-white border, gold plastic knobs
