Displaying rich textiles and resplendent with carved stone, stucco, and wood wall decorations, medieval Spanish palaces were the opulent (and often intimidating) backdrops of both royal ceremonials and more informal, convivial court gatherings for performances of music and poetry. In such spaces, elites of all faiths interacted, united by their sophisticated and refined tastes in luxury objects, which transcended differences of belief.
