Iznik Ceramic Dish
This ceramic dish is characteristic of the later phase of production at the Iznik kilns in Ottoman Turkey. Its cavetto features an innovative design composed of a pair of large, serrated saz leaves in cobalt blue and emerald green, set against a background of a blooming carnation plant with red flowers. Iznik potters demonstrated both technical mastery and creative versatility by producing multiple variations on a single compositional theme. This dish represents a variation of a type in the collection (02.5.51), in which a cypress tree forms the central axis.
