Marble head of a youth from a relief

late 4th century BCE
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 153
This head probably was part of a large, elaborate grave monument. The strongly projecting forehead and deep-set eyes, which give an intense expression to the face, are similar in style to works that have been associated with Skopas, a famous sculptor of the fourth century B.C.
