Jungfrau und Kind mit der Heiligen Anna

Der venezianische Maler Giovanni Bellini, dessen Kunstwerke Dürer während seines Aufenthaltes in Venedig bewunderte, war wahrscheinlich die Inspiration für das Motiv der Jungfrau, die liebevoll das schlafende Christkind ansieht. Dabei sieht ihr die Mutter der Jungfrau zu, die Heilige Anna, die in Deutschland besonders verehrt wurde. Als Modell für die Heilige Anna diente Dürers Frau Agnes. Das Bild war zur privaten Andacht bestimmt.
